Module 2:  Practical Applications

2.1  Types of Adult learners

Carl Jung developed a theory that every individual had a personality type.  He believed that humans use four functions in their lives:
sensation, thought, emotion and intuition. The perception of facts is sensation, the unseen is intuition, thinking is analytical, deductive
cognition and feeling is all inclusive cognition. The terms introvert and extravert are derived from his work.  Introverts prefer their own
internal thoughts and feelings, while extroverts prefer the external world of things and people.

Adult learning styles:  Learning behavior can be broken down into three categories:  Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic/Tactile.  Visual
learners tend to like visual aids, handouts, and prefer face to face instruction.  Auditory learners prefer verbal instructions similar to
lectures, while kinesthetic might prefer “hands on activities”.  Many adult learners possess all three traits to some degree, but one is
more apparent.  An instructor would benefit from knowing their students to understand how they learn.  If all adult learners learned the
same, teaching would be easy.
