Module 2
Kolb’s experiential learning cycle suggests that learning styles are developed by individuals that indicate some emphasis of learning
abilities over others. . He suggests that certain learning behaviors are preferred by individuals. The four learning styles explained
below are suggested by Kolb, given individual preferences for perceiving and processing information.
a. Accommodator-The accommodator is a person who prefers to feel and process information by doing. This person favors the
concrete experience and active experimentation aspect. Accommodators learn from “hands on” experiences, and carry out the
plans.
b. Diverger-The divergent individual prefers to feel and learn about the information by watching and listening. The diverger
favors concrete experience and reflective observation. They tend to be creative, have broad cultural interests, and like to
brainstorm.
c. Converger –The converger is a person who prefers to perceive information by thinking and doing. The converger favors
abstract conceptualization and reflective observation. Convergers find practical use for ideas and theories. They tend to be
problem solvers and focus on technical tasks.
d. Assimilator -The assimilator is an individual who prefers to learn by thinking and watching/listening. The assimilator favors
abstract conceptualization and reflective observation. They are logical, concise, and their focus is on abstract ideas and concepts.
